There are three major kinds of volcanoes;
- shield volcanoes - they produce lava flow
- stratovolcanoes - erupts lava, ash and rock and grow to enormous heights
- cinder cone - small and short lived eruptions

Volcanoes can grow quickly - some volcanoes take thousands of years to form and others can grow overnight, usually the cinder cone
